What is the Governing Body?
The governing body at Broomhill Primary School has a range of duties and powers and a general responsibility for the conduct of the school. The day to day management of Broomhill Primary School is the responsibility of the headteacher but the Governing Body is responsible for overseeing all aspects of school life and has three statutory responsibilities:
- Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
- Holding the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the performance management of staff
- Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.
What is a School Governor?
There are many types of Governors from different parts of the school community - parents, staff, community, local authority and church. This helps to ensure that the governing body has sufficient diversity of views and experience but does not mean that governors of a particular category "represent" that group on the governing body. For example, Parent Governors do not act as representative of the parents at school and do not report back to them.
The term of office for all governors is four years. If re-appointed or re-elected governors can serve for a further term (s).
